    AAT tonnage throughput in December falls 9pc

    ASIA Airfreight Terminal Co Ltd (AAT) has announced that its tonnage throughput in December came to 61,324 tonnes, a decrease of 9 per cent compared with the same month in 2010.

    Export cargo amounted to 41,165 tonnes, a decline of 12 per cent year on year. Import cargo volume for December was 19,686 tonnes, a slight reduction of 0.1 per cent. Transhipment cargo volume was 472 tonnes, down 40 per cent.

     

    For the whole of 2011, AAT handled 700,181 tonnes of cargo, down 2 per cent when compared with 2010.

     

    Total export tonnage for 2011 fell to 480,592 tonnes, down 6 per cent against the previous year. Total import tonnage grew to 209,252 tonnes, representing an increase of 5 per cent. Transhipment cargo volume amounted to 10,337 tonnes, up 86 per cent year on year.

     

    General manager for Corporate Development, Kenneth Yeung said: "Looking ahead, we are expecting more challenges in 2012."
