HONG KONG exports to the mainland China for outward processing shrank 0.3 per cent to HK$124.7 billion (US$16.07 billion) in the first quarter compared to the same period last year, according to the figures from Hong Kong Census and Statistics Department.
The value of domestic exports to the mainland China for outward processing fell 23 per cent to HK$900 million while the value of re-exports to the mainland dipped 0.1 per cent to HK$123.8 billion.
Likewise, the value of imports from the mainland related to outward processing decreased seven per cent to $176.1 billion in the first quarter. "About HK$201.6 billion in re-exports of mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the mainland, representing a decrease of one per cent," said a statement of Hong Kong Government Information Service.
In the first three months, 30 per cent of Hong Kong's total exports to the mainland were for outward processing, which comprise 16 per cent for domestic exports and 30 per cent for re-exports.
Forty-five per cent of imports from the mainland were for outward processing during the period, while 75 per cent of re-exports of the mainland origin to other places were produced through outward processing on the mainland.
