APMT Maasvlakte 2 expected to be of world's most automated terminal
THE APM Terminals facility at Rotterdam's new Maasvlakte 2 will probably be the world's most automated facility when it opens with remote-controlled quay cranes, automatic guided vehicles that communicate both with the cranes auto-stackers.
It should result in an exceptional high production, allowing the terminal to reach its planned 2.7 million TEU capacity in phase 1 with eight ship-to-shore cranes, according to Rotterdam's Dredging Today.
Higher production speed is needed to handle its parent's company's Maersk Line 18,300-TEUers, the first of which is undergoing sea trials off Korea and well as the new 15,600 TEU ships.
