Asia railway conference to be held in Kuala Lumpur from September 10-12
THE Rail Business Asia (RBA) 2013 conference and exhibition will be held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, Malaysia from September 10-12 and bring together leading minds to provide a comprehensive overview of the rapidly developing and expanding railway industry in Asia. Sponsored by the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), the Construction Industry Development Board Malaysia (CIDB) and supported by Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MiGHT), the event will highlight the latest market insights. It will also focus on development projects and innovation, as well deliver presentations from authorities, asset owners and operators. The exhibition will showcase the latest technological advancements and provide a hub for networking and knowledge sharing. Given that the Malaysian government recognises the rail industry's critical need for people with the relevant technical qualifications and skills, Thales, a global leader in ground transportation, has signed a memorandum of understanding with MiGHT to promote human capital development for Malaysia's rail industry. One of the hottest topics in Malaysia is the high-speed rail (HSR) link between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore as the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) speeds up the process of kick-starting the multi-billion ringgit project. "We are working very hard to ensure that the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore railway link is operational by 2020," said CEO of SPAD, Mohd Nur Ismal, who will speak on the performance of HSR links and its feasibility in Asia. Other government agencies, rail asset owners, operators and infrastructure developers that have confirmed their participation in the conference include Malaysia's Ministry of Transport (MoT), Railway Asset Corporation (RAC), Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT) and Express Rail Link (ERL); Mass Rapid Transport Authority of Thailand (MRTA); Taiwan High Speed Rail Corporation (THSRC); Vietnam Railways (VR); and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).
